String captured in target language
Posted by Gian Luca De Bonis on 27 August 2010 11:00 AM
Q: My application is running in a target language and in authoring mode. But I see some strings captured in target language, not in source! Is it a bug?

A: Strings must be captured in source language only. There are two APIs for translating objects and strings: Translate and Translate_Untranslated.
Translate assumes that the phrase is in source language, and when translating it, it captures the phrase if new or in a new context.
Translate_Untranslated first checks if the phrase is already translated in the current language; if not, it calls the Translate method (that captures the phrase if needed).

So check that when you use the Translate API, the string is certainly in the source language. In doubt, use the Translate_Untranslated API.

Note: Translate is faster when the phrase is surely in source language. Translate_Untranslated is faster when the phrase is probably in the target language.
